Access the Power of Your Higher Self
Published in Paperback by Summit Univ Press (01 July, 1998)
Author: Elizabeth Clare Prophet
Average review score:

Prophet makes a esoteric subject practical
This was my first book reading the Higher Self when I put it 2 years ago. Over the course of the last 2 years I read many many new age and spiritual books discussing opening and awakening to your Higher Self...but no one wrote it as well and as simplistic as Prophet. Prophet excells when she is not talking about alchemy or lost years of Jesus, but more when she is talking about angels, abundance, and higher self. For whatever reason those are her strong points. Possibly because she does not channel the entities in these areas as much as in the previous, I dont know. I dont care either. The layout of this book is fantastic and Im quite surprised that the sales count for this book is so low. For everyone who wants to know how to access your higher self, your God-Self, this is the book to use. Prophet gives detailed meditations and mantras that work immediately upon the use of them. They are powerful, they are direct, and they are not meant for you to spend a life-time acheiving. If you dont believe me, buy the book!

Ace's Exambusters Algebra 1 Study Cards (Exambusters)

Authors: Peter Bernstock and Elizabeth R. Burchard
Average review score:

You Can Learn Math the Hard Way or...
On my own, I studied my two texts on algebra. I also took algebra in college. With the texts, I would have to finish 50 or so problems and then look in the back of the text. And by that time, I didn't care about the problems that I had stumbled with! In college, it would take several days before I knew the results of the math tests. This is not good learning! This method does not provide immediate reinforcement. And you forget the problems that you had stumbled with.

I've corresponded with a Dr. Osher Doctorov. He is a math and physics teacher who has so many credentials that it will make your head ache (see his comments on flash cards in his reviews on mathematics). He is the one who turned me onto the idea of flash or study cards.

One disagreement with Exambusters. The flash cards need to be used during the math courses and be given top priority. Not just for exams. But for the study of math in general. This is all based on learning theory. One doesn't have to take an opinion about it. If B.F. Skinner used immediate reinforcement on pidgeons and it worked, why do we assume that pidgeons should be treated with more respect than our children or us? I study algebra for relaxation (once I did so for 6 hours without stopping). But Dr. Octorov believes that the torture used on not knowing an answer to an equation that we have tumbled with can be a great pain. Or at least this is his implication. He has taught all ages of students and take a look at this reviewer's credentials! Do you and your kids a favor. Buy these flash cards. And then test your children if you like! Make it a game! Also see my review on Polya's book, "How to Solve It!". Math is a question mark. Not a period. Than you.

Ace's Exambusters English Vocabulary Study Cards (Exambusters)
Published in Cards by Ace Academics Inc (01 January, 1900)
Author: Elizabeth R. Burchard
Average review score:

Best way to improve your vocabulary!
I bought these cards to help improve my vocabulary when it comes to taking the SAT. So far, many of the words have shown up on the practice tests I took, and it has helped me improve my verbal score.

I recommend using flash cards because it is the best way to see if you really know what a word means or not. Regular word lists have the definitions right next to the word, which doesn't help you quiz yourself.

All in all, buy this to improve your score! It's WORTH IT!

Adventures in Babysitting
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (July, 1987)
Author: Elizabeth Faucher
Average review score:

Good Novelization of Cheesy 1980s Comedy Flick
When Chris Parker, a senior in high school, is stood up by her boyfriend (Mike Toddwell) on their anniversary, she reluctantly accepts a babysitting job from the Andersons instead. Everything goes wrong, though, once Chris takes the two Anderson kids (Brad and Sarah) and their friend (Daryl Coopersmith) into the city so she can pick up her best friend (Brenda Pidgjocki), who just ran away from home. Yet before they can find Brenda, one accident after another befalls them--their tire blows out on the freeway, they're towed by a scary-looking car mechanic with a hook for a hand, followed by being rescued by a car thief, chased by crooks, and involved in a gang war. But the night is still young, and they have yet to find Brenda and get home in one piece before their parents find out.

This is the next best thing to watching the movie, particularly if you don't have a VCR/DVD player handy. I read this book a lot when I was in middle school, though I watched the movie even more. This is a good novelization of one of the cheesiest comedy flicks from the '80s. The only drawback is that are no pictures of the movie inside, just one group shot on the back cover. Also, some of the profanity was altered, like Brad's favorite "h" name for Thor, Sarah's fair-haired superhero, possibly because of the younger readers who might read this book. Still, this book is worth owning if you're really into the "Adventures in Babysitting" movie.

The Adventures of Elizabeth in Rugen (Virago Modern Classics)

Authors: Elizabeth Von Arnim and Elizabeth

The Adventures of Elizabeth in Rugen
It is so wonderful to see that Elizabeth von Arnim's books are being reprinted. I find it difficult to pick a favorite, because all her books are delightful. This book is wonderful because it is so full of humor. I laughed out loud at some scenes! How Elizabeth "escapes" from different groups of people on Rugen and her descriptions of them make fun reading. I hope this and other books by Elizabeth that are being reprinted will spark a whole new generation of fans. She is a writer who doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
